The Storm King River Run

Hudson Highlands / Cornwall, NY
Distance66 mi
Ride time1h 43m
StartAstoria, Queens (NYC)
CharacterCliffside curves, panoramic river views

This one skips the deep woods entirely and goes straight for the most dramatic pavement in the Hudson Valley: the Storm King Highway, NY-218, carved directly into the granite face of Storm King Mountain. Four hundred feet below, the Hudson. Zero shoulders, low stone walls, and views that make it genuinely hard to keep your eyes on the road — which, on this road, you very much need to do.

The actual road-by-road line, routed by TwoTired's own engine — every curve you see is pavement you'll ride.

How the ride breaks down

The escapeCity escape and fast highway transit past the Bear Mountain Traffic Circle up to Cornwall.
The transitSmooth parkway cruising between the bridge and the Bear Mountain traffic circle.
The rewardA dramatic stretch carved directly into the mountainside with 400-foot drops to the river and zero shoulders.

Local knowledge

NY-218 closes in bad weather and for rockfall — check before you commit. The pull-offs near the crest are the photo spots. Pair it with lunch in Cornwall-on-Hudson.
